Ultrasonography
What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of inside of your body. They can show movement of internal organs as well as blood flow through vessels. It is a non-invasive, pain-free exam.
Ultrasonography is performed using one of our two systems:
Biosound MyLab
Sonosite MicroMaxx
- Male and female technologists are available for your comfort.
If your doctor has ordered an ultrasound for you, there may be some preparation you will need to do. These exams are usually scheduled in the morning due to the need for fasting.
For an ultrasound of the liver, gallbladder, spleen and pancreas:
- Have a fat-free meal the evening before your exam
- No food 8-12 hours before the test
For an ultrasound of the kidneys:
- You may be asked to refrain from eating 8-12 hours before the test
- You may be asked to drink 4 - 6 glasses of water an hour before the study in order to fill your bladder
For an ultrasound of the aorta:
- You may be asked to refrain from eating 8-12 hours before the test
Doppler Exams
